Behavioral Health Therapist (PreK-8th Grade)

This posting is for a position during the 2026-2027 school year which will start in August 2026.

Minimum Qualifications 

• Missouri Licensed Clinical Social Worker certification
• Advanced degree in social services-related field
• Near native fluency in spoken and written English

Nice-to-Haves- Skills and qualities that are a plus but not necessarily a requirement

• Employment experience in K-8th grade setting
• Strong data tracking and interpretation habits
• Solid understanding of academic and behavioral strategies for students with various needs
• Knowledge of best practices when working with language learners 

Responsibilities

• Provides individual and small-group counseling services to students with identified social, emotional, or behavioral needs.
• Develops, implements, and monitors counseling-related IEP and 504 goals; documents student progress and participates in IEP or 504 meetings when counseling services are provided.
• Consults with and supports families through school-based consultation and, when appropriate, refers students and families to community mental health resources.
• Designs and facilitates short-term psychoeducational groups focused on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills such as emotional regulation, coping strategies, and growth mindset.
• Conducts classroom observations to assess student functioning, identify at-risk behaviors, and inform intervention planning.
• Provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 consultation and direct support to teachers and staff, including modeling behavioral strategies, delivering SEL lessons, and facilitating restorative practices.
• Maintains consistent communication and collaboration with parents and guardians regarding student progress and support needs.
• Coordinates services with approved community partners to support student mental health needs when consent is provided.
• Participates on multidisciplinary problem-solving teams to support students with identified social, emotional, or behavioral concerns.
• Conducts suicide risk assessments and collaborates with designated staff to develop and implement safety and prevention plans in accordance with school policies.
• Serves as a member of the school crisis response team, supporting student de-escalation, co-regulation, and emotional stabilization.
• Maintains accurate, confidential counseling records, including goals, progress notes, intervention plans, and safety documentation to support data-informed decision making.
• Demonstrates professionalism and adheres to ethical standards and legal requirements, including FERPA and professional counseling guidelines.
• Ensures safety of students by providing active supervision
• Builds strong relationships based on mutual respect across dimensions of difference with students, families, and all stakeholders.
• Provides appropriate, research-based scaffolds and differentiates instruction.
• Collects and analyzes data, and uses it to drive decisions.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this position is competitive and rages from $54,285 – $78,304. Your salary would be based on the highest postsecondary degree you have obtained and the number of years of experience you have. SLLIS also offers the following:
